* Outstanding fuel economy; roomy interior with lots of storage; generous cargo capacity; quiet and comfy ride. Source: Edmunds
* The world's first and most successful mass-produced hybrid car, the 2014 Toyota Prius hybrid continues to expand its dominance. For those folks who need a high-mileage mode of transport that is also very eco-friendly, very reliable and very much in demand, the 2014 Prius hybrid in all its forms is the hybrid of choice. If you're looking for the best fuel economy in the hybrid field, the 2014 Toyota Prius' 51/48 mpg rating is still king. The new plug-in model also allows for more options and with the ability to run solely on electric power. Due to the seamless transition between electric motor and gasoline engine, driving the Prius hybrid is a surprisingly serene event. The driver is given a range of performance options via the EV, Eco, and Power buttons, which allow for variations in throttle application and fuel consumption. In EV mode, the Prius hybrid functions solely on electric power (speed and miles permitting), while the Power mode setting delivers the full potential of the gasoline engine assisted by the electric motor. The Eco mode setting is probably the most useful of the three, allowing the Prius' computer to modify the throttle response for the best balance of fuel consumption and performance. The Toyota Prius hybrid hatchback features an interior as modern and different as its exterior. The contoured dash looks particularly handsome with its 2-tone panels. The Prius' sheet metal is designed to cheat the wind, with sharp-edged creases and flush glass panels. Even the car's wheel covers are aerodynamic. As some states also allow hybrid cars to waive the 2-person-per-car minimum to drive in the High Occupancy Vehicle lanes, the Prius might actually be able to speed up your commute times! Purchased new in 2012, I drove 45,000 miles first two years of ownership, 22,000 miles between 2014 and 2019 since switching it to my wife's daily vehicle (we still own vehicle). I am 6'3 a petite 260 lbs. (Ha Ha)... and I fit comfortably with plenty of leg room. Ample power especially with gas/electric combo. Still sharp looking design although 8 model years old. Tons of storage, back seats can recline slightly, decent sound system, respectable to drive in Minnesota winters. Still solid, no squeaks or rattles. Wife and I have modest driving habits and generally average in the 32-34 MPG range, not 40-42 MPG...Plan to keep this car on the road at least another 10+ years...:) Happy we bought it..:) Inexpensive to operate and maintain.

This is my 2nd Prius, drove the first 10 years without a hiccup! The V has a little more room. Average mpg 40-44 depending on season.I would certainly buy again.
  • Great small SUV feel with fantastic gas mileage

I owned a 4Runner for 10 years (and 260,000+ miles) before buying my Prius V. I needed the storage space but did not want the price tag or gas mileage of a typical SUV. The Prius V offered many of the SUV features that I enjoyed over the years. My Prius V has taken the family camping to many places over the past 1 1/2 years, including a couple that were over 6 hours away. I added a hitch and bike rack for added flexibility. Even fully loaded with gear for a trip I can get about 40MPG out of it. I never got that out of my 4Runner. The only thing I lost from going to the Prius V from my 4Runner was a little space in the back, mostly in height. I gained much more leg room in the back seat, over 2X better gas mileage, better leg room for driver, and it can even climb hills with when fully loaded. I miss the daytime running lights that my 4Runner had but I just leave the lights on all the time and they auto shut off after 30 seconds so I treat it like daytime running lights. Overall, the car has great gas mileage, the reliable Toyota quality, ample space and is a fantastic value for a small SUV. After 32K+ miles I am still happy with my decision to replace my 4Runner with the Prius V rather than a RAV4.
