In a press release from last week, Toyota announced that, for the second year in a row, it has received more patents from the United States Patent and Trademark Office than any other automaker. The news comes from a recent publication by the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) which stated that Toyota was given 1,636 patents in 2015. The patents covered a wide range of technologies, from artificial skin for safety mannequins, to self-cleaning fabrics. In a testament to the automaker's never-ending commitment to innovation, Toyota is the only automaker to earn a spot in the top 20 on the IPO list.

“As companies in the automotive industry transform themselves into broader mobility providers, no auto company better demonstrates innovation and technology for the future than Toyota,” said Jeff Makarewicz, senior vice president, Toyota Technical Center (TTC), Toyota’s North American research & development headquarters. “We’re focused on delivering great experiences for our customers, a cornerstone of Toyota’s product commitment, and this recognition is proof we’re living up to that promise.”
